CMRA Participates in EPA National C&D Meeting

Saying C&D materials recovery faces a number of barriers, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has convened a workgroup consisting of critical stakeholders to prioritize the challenges to C&D materials recovery. The small group included CMRA representatives, including Secretary/Treasurer Valerie Montecalvo.

Later, additional workgroups will be formed “to identify specific, strategic actions that can be taken to address each obstacle. Strategies to overcome each obstacle will be developed as individual action plans. Each strategy will be developed in a facilitated process to explore options, opportunities, and recommendations; not necessarily consensus,” according to the EPA document outlining the steps that will taken.

The goal of the project is to increase the amount of C&D material recovered for environmental reasons. Anticipated outcomes of the effort will include targeted, The project, which will be lead by Dr. Kimberly Cochran of the EPA, will have many participants, including manufacturers, generators, haulers, recyclers, end markets, and regulators. It is expected to be finished later in 2010.
